It's Hygge! (Hoo-guh)

Hygge (pronounced hoo-guh)
Say that fast three times... and it sounds like an antique car horn!

But it's a Danish tradition, and some say, it may be in part responsible for the positive outlook that a lot of Danes have. That may be an over-simplification, but I'm game to give it a whirl.

Usually, right after Christmas, I begin to feel the doldrums as we wade through the spent wrapping paper, find a place for the new gifts, in general, begin cleaning up and "decluttering" after the holiday decorating. And then the house feels cold, warm lights that were in the windows get put away in another couple of weeks.

But this year, I say "no. No, vahelde!" ('scuse my Danish). I want that wintery warmth to continue all winter long! So I have decided, I will not take my lights out of the windows. I will be a beacon of warmth all through the winter season. I will set the table for every meal, enjoying the simple things, bringing in warmth from the wonderful Shops at A&W Collectables, and sharing that warmth with family and friends.

So come on in to the shop this winter and enjoy Hygge! And here, throughout the next couple of months,  I'll be sharing hygge with you, our friends from "The House That A&W Collectables Filled".

Downsizing? Reduce and Replace!

Ahhh, so the house that A&W Collectables Filled found new owners. Yippee yahoo! And now I'm back to thinning out my old house.
And to help me in this process, I found a fabulous book! The Life-Chaging Magic of Tidying Up, by Marie Kondo.

Part of the beauty of "reducing" and "down-sizing", (one of the benefits of moving multiple times), is looking at your home in a new way - being selective. So now, everything in my home has to be a treasured piece, or out it goes and in comes a new "treasure".
This might sound counter-intuitive for someone selling furniture, but it's all part of the same love of home and decor. I wouldn't want to sell someone something that I don't myself love!
So read Marie Kondo's book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, clean a closet, then come by A&W Collectables for those pieces that speak to your heart. :)

It's a great trend right now - this re-purposing of furniture. And "recycling" furniture has become a family tradition. My last big project was a dining room suite for my own house, but when I'm not painting and sanding for myself, I can most often be found painting and distressing something for the shop.

If you're into recycling and the country cottage, Shabby Chic, French Country look is what you're going for, you've found home! Here are just a few of the treasures that have come in recently.
A little "gossip bench" - in Barbara's Booth!
A buggy bench - in Richard and Annette's booth!
A couple of bar stools in The Squirrel's Nest!

An adorable little bird cage.
